Parquet & Engineered Wood
Regular care
- Daily dry sweep or vacuum (soft brush attachment)
- Weekly lightly damp mop (well wrung out)
- Use pH-neutral parquet cleaner – never all-purpose cleaner
- Take off shoes – heels leave dents
Periodic care
- Oiled parquet: re-oil every 6–12 months with matching care oil
- Lacquered parquet: refresh or sand lacquer every 3–5 years
- Treat damage promptly – swelling wood leads to further damage
Always avoid
- Standing water – wipe up immediately
- Steam cleaner – steam penetrates the wood
- Aggressive cleaners (alcohol, acetone)
- Abrasive and scouring agents
Laminate
Regular care
- Vacuum or dry wipe regularly
- Damp mop only with well wrung-out cloth
- Use specialist laminate cleaner
- Repair scratches with a laminate repair kit
Periodic care
- Check joints for leaks once a year
- Inspect skirting boards and transitions
- Renew anti-slip mats under furniture
Always avoid
- Wet cleaning – laminate swells with too much moisture
- Abrasive cleaning agents
- Steam mop
- Wax and polish (seals pores incorrectly)
Vinyl & LVT
Regular care
- Vacuum or damp mop – vinyl is waterproof
- Mild all-purpose cleaners are usually suitable
- Wipe up heavy dirt immediately
- Use felt pads under all furniture
Periodic care
- Apply vinyl care spray every 3–6 months
- Check seam sealants (LVT tiles)
- Deep care once a year – restores shine to the floor
Always avoid
- Scouring pads and abrasives
- Solvent-based cleaners
- High-pressure cleaners
- Very hot floors – vinyl deforms from approx. 70 °C
Solid Wood Flooring
Regular care
- Daily sweep or vacuum
- Damp mop only with firmly wrung-out cloth
- Use specialist solid wood cleaner
- Scratch marks in the wood are normal – part of the character
Periodic care
- Oiled: re-oil every 3–6 months
- After 10–15 years: sanding and re-oiling/lacquering possible
- Keep humidity constant at 45–65% (prevents swelling/shrinking)
Always avoid
- Large amounts of moisture
- Rubber feet under furniture (discolour wood)
- Direct sunlight for extended periods (UV discolouration)
- Air that is too dry – below 30% humidity (gaps)
